“Ella is in my studio reading a book on how trees communicate. We just watched the U.S. Women’s Soccer Team beat Norway 1–0 in a friendly. Just like old times on a couple of levels, but the players are so young, some of them younger than Ella, that we have to learn how to be their fans. It’s been slow, but I’m starting to get into a flow again in my studio. The key is not to pressure myself with new stuff (especially writing) because there is plenty of old stuff (including this painting) to trick myself into the good mood that production engenders.
